Responsibilities of Mediums.

Responsibilities of Mediums.

What are the responsibilities of Mediums?

“To prove existence of life after physical death”………….I hear you shout. Really, is that all?

How about communication skills? Personal presentation? Friendly interaction with those attending an evening of Mediumship? Professionalism? Sincerity? Learnedness?

Now let me address the above.

Communication is not just about talking to someone by passing on information given; it’s about the way that information is put over.

I have seen some established Mediums fail miserably at this. And a high number of the new ‘pseudo’ Mediums are even worse………..why? Because they haven’t been taught, again I must ask the question WHY?

On personal presentation……..well to be honest, the majority do seem to get it right. But I have witnessed Mediums turning up to an evening of Mediumship dressed in a less than professional way. One female medium recently wouldn’t have looked out of place on a street corner. A rather busty lady who wasn’t shy at showing her assets………good personal presentation…………I think not! Perhaps she was trying to distract the audience from her poor Mediumship.

I’m not saying for a minute that all mediums should be ‘Suited and booted’, but at least look somewhere near professional if that is what they profess to be; professional mediums.

Now how about this. Just before an evening kicks off, the Medium is secreted away in a side room, then at a given moment wheeled out to do the job in hand. Job done, the Medium is, often times, hustled away again like Cinderella, with next to no interaction with the attendees.

And some who do mix, strut around handing out advice and cards with an air of pomp; again, not a professional approach. And a number of the new ‘pseudo’ Mediums are the worst for this. And, why? And again I answer, because they haven’t been taught otherwise.

Many years ago I watched Mediums (Not all I may add) who were professional in everything they did, and they gained respect. Some of these Mediums were also very learned in their field and would take time to share what they knew, without ego.

I am afraid that the standard of teaching has dropped, badly. Some centres and churches have become nothing more than ‘Medium Mills’, churning out ill-equipped, ego tinged, less than professional psychics. I have personally squirmed with embarrassment as I have watched some of these puffed up, ego-centred (Supposed) Mediums.

Spiritualists whine that they aren’t taken seriously, that they want to be recognised as something true and honest; professional people doing a professional job. For the minority, they do. Unfortunately, the majority will bring Spiritualism to its knees.

The standard has to be raised…………and higher than it once was if the Spiritualist Movement is to (1) survive and (2) to be seen as professional.

Something to think about?

This should ring a few bells, how true nic i wonder if the responsibility for these situations go back to the individuals basic training? in the development groups, with the trainers integrity and responsibility to their sitters being neglected.

When a knight won his spurs in the stories of old,
He was gental and brave, he was gallant and bold;
With a sheild in his arm and a lance in his hand for god and for valour he rode through the land.
No charger have i ,and no sword by my side, yet still to adventure and battle i ride,
Though back into storyland giants have fled, and the knights are no more and the dragons are dead.
Let faith be my shield and let joy be my steed "Gainst the dragons of anger,the ogres of greed;
And let me set free, with the sword of my youth,
From the castle of darkness the power of truth.
Amen, blessings to the new year.

Hi Nic

Well said. Do you not think that it is not so much a lack of training in these areas as the good old ego getting in the way yet again? I too have seen so many mediums over the years, the good, the bad and the indifferent, but the saddest cases I have seen are those who started out with real and genuine talent, fantastic communicators with real gifts to offer, who have fallen victim to their own success and turned into money making machines with egos the size of a planet. The mediumship starts to suffer, the rumours start to go round, and yet another genuinely talented person becomes one to avoid.
Its not lack of training, its ego and the arrogance that goes with it. If you cant leave your ego at the door, you shouldnt be in this work !
