Whose life is it anyway?

Do you ever wonder why some people have everything and others appear to struggle all the time? Although our thoughts and how we use them have something to do with this, there are also other reasons. One reason is that our bodies are just the way we have chosen to experience certain things that we cannot experience as spirits. Because that is what we are – spirit. And yes – we did say we choose our lives! We are here to evolve and the way we do this is by experiencing emotions and sensations that we cannot experience as spirits. But just because we have chosen this particular life it doesn’t mean we do not have free choice to do what we want. We are all given gifts that can be used for good of bad. These gifts are things like our emotions (love, hate, jealousy, tolerance, anger, impatience and so on) and our physical attributes (our talents, abilities, looks etc). If you think about it you will see that all of these can be used either positively or negatively. Think about the people who use love as an excuse to control others. Love is the most powerful emotion we have yet we allow it to be used in negative ways. Love should be unconditional but how often do we attach strings to our love? Conversely, hate is a very powerful negative emotion. But just as it is possible to use love in a negative way it is possible to use hate in a positive way. So how can we turn a negative emotion like hate into a positive emotion?

We are all at different stages of evolution. The atrocities that we witness every day around the world appal us because we have evolved past that stage. But that doesn’t mean we can afford to be complacent. Although, thankfully, most of us have evolved past the stage of mass murder, mutilation and torture, in our own lives we still haven’t managed to conquer these primitive emotions. Hate can be harmful to the person it is aimed at but more importantly it is even more harmful to the person who is feeling it. If you spend your life hating someone who you think has caused you some injustice who are you really hurting? Whose life are you wasting? While you are wasting all that energy the person you hate is probably getting on with their life, totally unaware of how you feel. So who is really being hurt by your hate? The only person you are hurting is you. The saying ‘life is too short’ is so true. There are so many other things we could be doing with our lives, things to bring light and love to the world. Why are we wasting our time with such negative unproductive emotions? Instead of hating your ex partner, ex friend why not hate poverty or injustice? Choose to use your ‘hate’ in a positive way and change the world for the better. You will feel so much better and so will the world.
