I recently heard about the passing of Ann Napier of Cygnus Books. For those of you who haven’t heard of Ann, she was the co-founder of Cygnus Books with her husband Geoff, several years ago. Cygnus Books is a book club which promotes Mind, Body and Spirit books through its free monthly magazine.
Many years ago Ann had a dream which lead to her starting Cygnus Books on a small scale. Over the years it has grown into a valuable resource for spiritually minded people, where you can get books at huge discounts from their normal retail price, read inspirational articles by some of our leading teachers and learn about events and courses taking place.
I can’t remember when I first picked up a copy of the Cygnus Review, the free monthly magazine, but I soon became a subscriber and have bought countless books from it, which have helped and guided me in my spiritual life. As an interviewer for The Spirit Guides website, I was keen to interview Ann, not only to understand the Cygnus story, but also to learn a little more about Ann herself, who often wrote wonderful articles that inspired both me and all the Cygnus family as well.
One particular article that struck me was one which had such a simple message, yet was so profound. It was this simple phrase: - “Nothing matters”. That’s all. In life we tend to complicate things so much, getting worked up about anything and everything. Yet at the end of the day……nothing matters!
In November 2012, I finally got an interview with Ann, who opened up to me about her life, how Cygnus began, her vision for Cygnus and her continuing battle with cancer. Sadly Ann passed away in July this year, aged sixty, but her legacy lives on. There may be plenty of Mind, Body and Spirit magazines out there, but Cygnus is unique and well worth subscribing to if you don’t already.
So thank you Ann for your life, your kindness, your vision and your openness. You will be missed by many people, but your legacy lives on.
