Rowan

In 2004 my son Rowan was diagnosed with Autism. I found my way into his world through a horse - Betsy. This summer, 2007, Rowan and I will journey across Mongolia, the land of the horse, raising awareness for autism, making a movie and raising funds to put in a dedicated Autism Resource Center in Austin Texas, where autism rates have spiked by 600% in the past 15 years. We will ride from healer to healer, staying with traditional shamans, who will work on Rowan, journeying across the Great Steppe up to where Siberia kisses the north of Mongolia at Lake Hovsgvol - the land of the reindeer herders. An adventure that never would have come to me, had Rowan not been diagnosed with Autism.

I kept being told by friends to read the book but having a 5 year old autistic son hardly ever get time to read anything for relaxation (all seems to be research) then it was bought for me and I cannot tell you how much it has moved me, wrote with such honesty it had so much weight, to understand how
much it means when a child actually starts to connect with you, Fantastic Book. Cannot wait till film is released in UK!

Yes, a documentary, originally titled "Over The Hills and Far Away" was shown at the Sundance, SXSW, and several other film festivals in the US last year. It is scheduled to be released in the US starting this fall. The DVD is scheduled to be released in April. I will try to find out when the UK film dates will be and post that info on the site:

I'm actually reading the book at the moment. Extreamly fasinating. I read about Rupert's story back in 2007 I believe and was moved and inspired by it having an autistic daughter around the same age. I put her name down for a riding school back in 2008 for children with challanging conditions and had to wait nearly 9 months for a place. She has been riding since December and loves it. A natural on a horse. A wish Rupert, Kristin and Rowan all the best with the book. Is a film being made also?
